Why choose granite window sills?

Is it time to update the look of your home a little? Painting, cleaning, new floors and furniture … We often forget a simple solution that can take the look of our home to a new level: window sills. They act as a base for the window and also drain water away. A beautiful granite window sill adds a great deal to the look of a room, and it can liven up your interior or your facade. But you should also choose the material of your new window sill with care. We suggest granite. Would you like to know why?

A granite window sill brings you many advantages!

Window sills come in a very wide range of materials and colours. But granite window sills are certainly the most suitable choice. They are very durable, especially compared with the other materials available. In Slovenia, wooden window sills are still very common. Because of the structure of the wood, these sills are particularly prone to cracking, they wear and chip quickly, and the wood starts to absorb moisture. Moisture then leads to harmful mould. Metal sills are also common, and they start to oxidise over the years, while synthetic materials are also prone to cracking and warping. Stone in general is a very durable material. It also resists heat and frost.

The natural look of stone window sills will impress every passer-by. They come in many shades of white, black, grey, cream, brown and even green. In fact, natural stone is available in most shades, and it will also give your home beautiful patterns.

Another big advantage is that stone window sills are much easier to look after. They collect a little less dirt, and what does collect is very easy to clean off.

Why choose granite window sills in particular?

Granite is a very hard and durable stone. You can even put hot pots and pans on it without worrying that the heat will damage the stone. To give you an idea: on the Mohs hardness scale, where 1 is the softest and 10 the hardest material, granite ranks high at number 8! It also resists ordinary and extreme weather, and it does not let water through.

It is very easy to look after. In fact, you will mostly just need to clean it and reseal the joints when needed. It is best to use cleaners suitable for granite, as this keeps the stone looking good.

When we think of granite, we usually think of dark colours and greys. But there is much more choice: darker granite is just the most common. It even comes in colours such as pink, green and blue, and you are sure to like its beautiful natural patterns too.

Granite window sills are an excellent choice. For long-term quality, you can use the same stone that forms the base of the Statue of Liberty in New York! It will bring a sense of classic style and elegance into your home and take your rooms to a whole new level.
